Training Institute Opens
Specialized courses available in service, engineering,
power generation, and shipbuilding markets.
NEWBERG, Oregon. September 30, 2003
Climax® Portable Machine Tools, Inc. announced today the start of its expanded machine tool training schedule for the 2003 to 2004 training year. The courses are designed for engineers, maintenance or facility managers, foremen and facility machinists in a variety of markets. The schedule includes one to five-day training for on-site portable tools including boring and bore welding machines; valve repair machining, grinding and lapping; flange facing machines; milling machines; and lathes.
Climax significantly expanded its training institute, now in its twentieth year, in response to a growing need for more highly trained workers in a number of industries. To accommodate the growth, Climax built new training classrooms at its Newberg, Oregon headquarters. The classrooms are equipped with hands-on tool simulations and the latest audio-visual equipment.
"Clients in our key industries such as shipbuilding, nuclear power generation and bridge rebuilding have been asking for help with training needs," said Climax VP Andy Becker, who is director of the training center. "We’ve expanded our course offerings to help fill this need and help machinists, engineers and managers in these industries become more productive and effective."
The top-rated courses include hands-on and classroom instruction in machine tool operations, applications maintenance and specialized techniques. Industry-specific courses in service, engineering, power generation, and shipbuilding markets are also available. In addition, Climax offers customized and train-the-trainer programs on location, or at the Climax Portable Machine Tools facility.
Training programs are taught by experienced Climax engineers and machinists. They include Jim Miller, a senior applications engineer for the shipbuilding group and shipbuilding industry specialist; Dave Strait, a senior development engineer with specialized experience in power generation, shipbuilding, and civil engineering; Garrett Headrick, a senior design engineer for the power generation systems group and recognized expert in line boring systems and valve refurbishment and repair; and Arnie Way, senior design engineer for the service and civil infrastructure group with specific expertise in bridge re-building and construction.
